Poorly maintained heating and cooling systems are one of the major causes of poor indoor air quality. This can lead to allergy flare ups, sinus infections, asthma attacks and other breathing issues. The key to a healthy Westminster HVAC system is having a clean air filter. If you haven't changed your furnace filter in the last 3 months, there is a good chance that there are excess airborne particles being circulated around your home.
Our Westminster HVAC techs do plenty of air filter changes as part of our routine maintenance plan. Simply changing the filter will make the air quality better, but it will also prevent dust build up on the furnace blower motor. Dirty blower motors can overheat and burn out and even catch fire outside of the burn chamber. When we change the air filter, we also clean the interior of the burn chamber including the blower motor. We also check the plenum and heat exchanger to make sure there is no cracking that could allow deadly carbon monoxide to enter your home.
Indoor air quality isn't just a problem during the winter. Since the air conditioning and heating systems both use the same ventilation ducts, forced air passes through the furnace filter all 12 months of the year. So, when we do air conditioner maintenance we check the filter then too. As part of our standard maintenance plan, we check and clean the evaporator and condenser coils, measure and top off the refrigerant level, clear out any debris around the exterior casing of the unit and check the entire ventilation system for blockages. We can also do duct leak detection and sealing to make sure that forced air isn't leaking out before it gets to the living areas.
